If you've been scrolling through Instagram lately, you may have spotted another crystal skincare trend - the facial roller. Ever since facial rolling entered the beauty world, everyone has wanted to know more. So, we've put together the ultimate guide to facial rolling - from its benefits to choosing a roller based on your skin type. Read on to find out all about it!
What is a facial roller?
Facial rolling, like shaving, is not new in terms of tools or techniques. It dates back to ancient China, when it was commonly used by wealthy Chinese women. A facial roller is a hand-held facial tool with dual heads with jade or any other crystal heads. These heads are used on different parts of the face, depending on the size of the face.
Due to their growing popularity, facial rollers are available in different sizes and stones. The mini roller, for example, as the name suggests is smaller in size and has only one roller head. It is suitable for travel and more affordable compared to medium-sized rollers. The mini roller is designed to fit around the eye and mouth area.
The facial roller is made of various stones such as jade, amethyst, obsidian, etc. (more on this later)!
What are the benefits of a facial roller?
There are several benefits to using a facial roller, such as
1. Prevents skin aging
Face rolling exercises your facial muscles, which improves your skin elasticity, eliminates your facial puffiness, and reduces any signs of aging
2. It renews the cells in your face
When done correctly, a rolling treatment is as good as any facial massage (more on this later). It energizes a tired face by replenishing skin cells.
3. It increases blood circulation and collagen in the face
Face rolling gets the blood flowing from one end of your face to the other, making it look fresher and brighter. It can also improve the production of facial skin proteins called collagen.
4. Skin care products absorb faster
For dramatic results, apply skin care products such as serums and moisturizers, and massage gently with a facial roller.
5. Eliminate dark circles under the eyes
Due to its cooling effect, facial rolling reduces the size of the blood vessels under the eyes, thus saying goodbye to dark circles and bags under the eyes.
How does the facial roller work?
To understand how the facial roller works, it is important to understand the structure of the tool. It consists of a handle with two rollers on each end. The larger roller is for your entire face. And the smaller one is made for the area around the eyes. These rollers are made of jade or any other type of crystal or semi-precious stone that has special healing and soothing properties.
Science shows that when you roll the tool over your face, it creates a slight pressure that stimulates the flow of blood and energy between the facial tissues. This will increase blood circulation and promote more optimal lymphatic movement, which effectively regenerates, repairs and protects cells!
How to choose the best facial roller for your skin?
As the trend of facial rollers has become very visible due to social media, the market is flooded with a variety of different crystal rollers. Since your skin type determines all the topical products you choose to use, it should also have a say in the tools you choose to use!

How do I use the facial roller?
If you are using a regular size double-ended roller, be sure to follow these steps -
1. The first step is to place the tool in the freezer for 2-3 hours to prepare the rolling tool.
2. While your tool is in the freezer, clean your face. Use the recommended cleanser for your skin type. Make sure it is completely free of dirt and any products you have previously applied. Then, dry your face with a soft towel and apply some serum or moisturizer to the area you want to roll.
3. Next, pick up your jade roller, place it on the top back of your neck and start rolling down. Once the back area is covered, begin rolling down the sides of your neck. Once you have completed this, place the jade roller on the front of your neck and roll from your jawline to your collarbone.
4. After completing the previous step, place the roller in the center of the face. Push it outward to the sides. Make sure to finish rolling the cheek area before moving to the forehead.
5. Place the roller on the forehead and roll down to the eyebrows. When satisfied, place the roller between the eyebrows and pull horizontally to the temples on both sides.
6. Using the smaller side of the roller, gently roll between the outer and inner corners of the eyes.
7. Finally, towel dry your face and apply your favorite moisturizer.
If you are using a mini facial roller with a single roller head, please follow these steps -
3. Place the roller on the edge of your lips and move it upward toward your nose. Continue rolling on the lips and under the nose.
4. Start rolling over your eyelids, from the inner corner to the outermost corner of your eyes. Next, roll the tool up to the eyebrows.
5. Roll from the middle of the forehead toward the temples. Make sure to repeat on the other side.
6. Finally, towel dry your face and apply your favorite moisturizer.
