In short, ice balls are freezable wands with a spherical end. After cooling slightly, these magical wands can be rolled or massaged over your face or other body parts.
"They are usually made of steel or glass and are kept at a lower temperature," explains Lanier. "They remove puffiness from the face, soothe irritated skin and improve circulation." She adds that they are also very effective for lymphatic drainage and relieving sinus pressure, especially when used on the face.
How do you use the puck?
Ice pucks are very easy to use at home, Lanier says. Simply store them in the refrigerator until chilled, and when they're ready to use, slowly drag them across your skin with simple strokes and circular motions. "You want to get everything out," says Lanier. "You can start between the eyebrows, pull it around the eyes, under the eyes [and] around the sinuses, then pull it toward the ears and down the neck across the chest."
Lanier recommends applying a light moisturizer, lotion or oil to the face before using the puck to help them glide over the skin. "I find that a light oil provides the best glide, but any moisturizer will do," she says.
Lanier likes to use the puck in her morning routine to remove puffiness and start her day in a relaxing way, but they can be used at any time in your beauty routine. lanier adds that because they are skin-friendly, there is no limit to how many times a day you can use them.
What to look for when buying a puck
Lanier recalls stories of glass pucks breaking during use, but you can easily avoid that by spending a few extra dollars on a better pair. She also harps on avoiding buying cheaper options because the quality may not be the best.
