The skincare benefits of a cool facial massage are iconic at this point - remember throwing spoons in the fridge to clear out the bags under your eyes? Admittedly, the skin care and beauty industry has come up with a slightly more elevated DIY version. Meet the puck, a futuristic beauty tool that you might find on celebrity Instagram, TikToks or while reading about Cindy Crawford's skincare routine. While their celebrity following is impressive, the puck's facial benefits are even better.
Benefits of ice globes
So what happens when you slide an Instagram- and TikTok-friendly beauty tool over your skin? According to Hamm, quite a bit: Benefits include minimizing inflammation or puffiness, helping with lymphatic drainage and sinus pressure, reducing redness and pore size, and jump-starting circulation - "which helps provide a radiant glow to the skin," Hamm says.
The cooling facial tool tightens and tones the skin by constricting blood vessels. Heat causes skin blood vessels to dilate and increases sweating, which can clog pores and dehydrate your skin, while cold slows and prevents sebum production, in addition to reducing swelling and inflammation by slowing blood flow. Once any type of cold touches the skin, the blood is flushed away from the face, reducing swelling and returning new, fresh red blood cells and nutrients, resulting in a brighter, healthier glow without redness or irritation.
The ice ball was created in part out of a need to upgrade traditional skin sugaring, a classic skin care technique that involves spinning ice cubes on the skin. "While skin sugaring offers many of the benefits of ice balls, it also has its drawbacks. Because direct skin contact with ice can damage skin cells if left in one place for too long, [ice globes] are designed to stay cold, neat and drama-free throughout the massage, while providing the same benefits as skin icing.
